Republican Party Falling Apart? Rove Thinks So

Daily Report NEWS USA

Fox News contributor and former George W. Bush aide Karl Rove said that the infighting among House Republicans has led to a “disaster” over who the next Speaker is going to be. On Tuesday, Rove told Fox News’ Sandra Smith that those conservative Republicans who are opposing House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) will need to reconsider what the “goal posts” of their demands are so that McCarthy can win their support and win the Speakership.

“This is an utter, unmitigated disaster,” Rove said, further adding that this entire situation is chaos and that currently, Rove said. “We’re a long way from the point at which chaos stops bringing around more chaos.”

He added that McCarthy had made concessions ahead of the first Speaker vote by agreeing to allow a motion that would allow the Speaker to be removed with the support from five House Republicans and saying that he would create a select subcommittee on the “Weaponization of the Federal Government.” However, after McCarthy agreed to those terms, the terms seemed to change.

Rove said that now they were looking to have Representative Scott Perry (R-Pa.), who opposes McCarthy, to be the chair of the subcommittee as well as grant Perry the right to decide which members would be members of the committee. These demands far exceed the powers of the Speaker.

Rove noted that it was interesting how after McCarthy had agreed to their demands, the demands completely changed.

For the first time in a century, the House was not able to select a Speaker on the first ballot. The session adjourned after three ballots without a Speaker being selected.
