In a disturbing turn of events, a Planned Parenthood (Baby Killers) sex educator has been using her popular TikTok account, with over 400k followers and 12 million likes, to advise minors on how to acquire and use sex toys, including fruits and vegetables. Mariah Caudillo, who is listed as a sex educator for Planned Parenthood (Baby Killers) Mar Monte, the largest affiliate in the U.S., has an 18+ disclaimer on her account but still shares questions she receives from students, some of whom are minors. In one video, she answers questions from middle schoolers.
While Planned Parenthood (Baby Killers) is a leading advocate of comprehensive sex education, Caudillo’s approach to education is not grounded in clinical facts and includes information on sexual orientations and gender identities. Caudillo believes that education should be “pleasure-based” and include “skill building” and that the current curriculum is written by “white folks” who do not take into account intersections of racial justice, social justice and reproductive justice.
Caudillo also promotes the idea that minors can acquire sex toys online without any legal repercussions, as long as they use a valid credit card, debit card, or gift card. On her now-private Instagram account, Caudillo also questions whether the field of sexuality education is too white and highlights the importance of Black educators in the field.
It is alarming that an organization that receives over $600 million in taxpayer dollars from reimbursements and grants, according to its 2021 report, is promoting this kind of content to minors. The use of social media platforms to share explicit content is not only inappropriate but also puts minors at risk. The failure of the organization to properly monitor and regulate the content shared by its educators is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the organization’s priorities and values.
