DeSantis Announces Plan To Cut University Funding For Equity And Critical Racist Theory Programs

Daily Report USA

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is dead serious about cleansing the cancer of Critical Racist Theory and the diversity, equity and inclusion teachings that cloak a virulently racist, anti-white agenda from the state’s educational system and his latest plan for reforms will have leftists howling in fury.  On Tuesday, the Sunshine State Republican announced that he aims to prevent state universities from spending money on the promotion of the toxic “woke” dogma that has been instrumental in the far-left cultural shift that has upended traditional western values in America, backing legislation that would deprive Florida colleges of funding for such programs in the hope that they will “wither on the vine.”

DeSantis delivered his remarks during a press conference at the State College of Florida in Bradenton, putting radicals on notice that campuses are places for education and not indoctrination, the governor’s latest effort to roll back left-wing influence in his state, a war that he is winning with much gratitude from voters who just rewarded him with a second term in a landslide 20-point win over his hapless Democrat opponent Charlie Crist.

“The first thing that we’re going to propose is we want to make sure that everybody that goes to a Florida university has to take certain core course requirements that’s really focused on giving them the foundation so that they can think for themselves and the core curriculum must be grounded in actual history, the actual philosophy that has shaped western civilization,” he said.

“Our institutions will be graduating students, I think with degrees that are going to be meaningful,” DeSantis continued. “We don’t want students to go through, at taxpayer expense, and graduate with a degree in zombie studies, so this is going to make a difference.”

“We are also going to eliminate all DEI and CRT bureaucracies in the state of Florida. No funding, and that will wither on the vine,” he said.

“And I think that that’s very important because it really serves as an ideological filter, a political filter. You’ve seen different things. I mean, New College has really embraced that and that’s part of the reason, I think, it hasn’t been successful and the enrollment’s down so much, because I think people want to see true academics and they want to get rid of some of the political window dressing that seems to accompany all this,” DeSantis added. “So that’s no longer gonna be in the state of Florida, and I think we probably are the first state that’s actually leading by example. But I can tell you those bureaucracies are not representative of what the people of the state and the taxpayers of the state want.”

“There’s really a debate about what is the purpose of higher education, particularly publicly funded higher education systems,” the governor also said on Tuesday. “You have the dominant view, which I think is not the right view, to impose ideological conformity, to provoke political activism. Instead, we need our higher education systems to promote academic excellence.”

“It’s not the best use of your money,” DeSantis said.

“In Florida, we will build off of our higher education reforms by aligning core curriculum to the values of liberty and the Western tradition, eliminating politicized bureaucracies like DEI, increasing the amount of research dollars for programs that will feed key industries with talented Florida students, and empowering presidents and boards of trustees to recruit and hire new faculty, including by dedicating record resources for faculty salaries,” the rising conservative star said in a press release from his office.
