Daily Report USA

San Antonio, TX – A Somerset police officer working an off-duty security job was able to shoot an attacker who stole his Taser and used it against him during a brawl outside a restaurant on Saturday night. The incident occurred at the Twin Peaks restaurant near the 100-block SW Loop 410 shortly before midnight on Feb. 11, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

San Antonio police said the restaurant staff asked a 34-year-old male patron to leave the establishment after a disturbance broke out, but he refused, according to KHOU.

Management then asked the off-duty Somerset police officer who was working a side job as a security officer at the restaurant to escort the unruly customer from the property, police said.

Investigators said the suspect was intoxicated and belligerent and that he became angry with the officer while he was being removed from the restaurant, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The physical altercation continued out in the parking lot, where the suspect allegedly stole the 29-year-old officer’s Taser and tried to flee the scene, investigators said.

A brief foot chase ensued before the suspect allegedly aimed the Taser at the officer and tased him with it, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The officer responded by shooting the suspect in the chest with his firearm.

The suspect was rushed to University Hospital by ambulance and was listed in critical condition on Sunday, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).

His identity was not immediately released.

Police said the off-duty officer was also transported to the hospital as a precaution.

SAPD officers secured the area after the shooting and were speaking with witnesses, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
