On Thursday, a reporter queried White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about whether President Joe Biden regrets his reaction of laughter towards a grieving mother who lost two of her sons to Fentanyl poisoning. The incident in question occurred during Biden’s speech at the House Democrat Caucus Issues Conference on Wednesday, where he briefly spoke about the mother’s loss.
The mother in question, Rebecca Kiessling, had criticized the federal government for prioritizing migrants during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Tuesday.
Kiessling lost her two sons, Caleb aged 20, and Kyler aged 18, to Fentanyl overdose in July 2020.
The grieving mother stated she was “shocked” at the ‘despicable’ remarks and called for an apology.
“How dare you?” the mother added when responding to the comments.
“[Biden] mentioned a mother that had lost two of her sons to fentanyl….He seemed to laugh. The mother is demanding an apology and I’m wondering if he regretted how that came out?” a reporter questioned Biden’s Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre.
Karine Jean-Pierre declared that what Biden said was being “mischaracterized by someone who is regularly discredited.”
