President Joe Biden ran on one of the most progressive platforms in Democratic Party history in 2020. One of the pledges he made to voters was that he was going to make the wealthy pay their “fair share.” Two years after taking office, the POTUS is once again pledging to target Americans.
On February 28, Biden gave a speech at the Kempsville Recreation Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The president discussed healthcare in America and took time to attack Republicans. He claimed MAGA Conservatives in Congress want to end the Affordable Healthcare Act, also known as Obamacare. He said they are threatening to default on America’s debt unless he “accept[s] certain economic plans.”

The president told the crowd that he spoke to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and told him that Republicans and the White House should put their budgets on the table. That’s what he intends to do on March 9th. He will outline his proposed budget, including raising taxes on those who make over $400,000 per year. Biden vowed nobody making less than that amount won’t have to “pay a penny more in taxes.” He also claimed he is going to reduce the deficit.
Biden explicitly stated he was going to raise taxes. He spoke to the American people saying he wanted to “make it clear” that billionaires will “stop paying at 3%.”
The speech wasn’t the first time Biden has said he’s going to raise taxes on the country’s job creators. Republicans have long opposed an increase in taxes on Americans. Instead, they believe lawmakers should reduce spending, arguing there’s no reason to increase revenue when the real problem is a bloated government.
In order to raise taxes, Biden would have to get the proposal through Congress. Republicans currently control the House of Representatives, making it highly unlikely such a proposal would ever even make it to the floor for a vote.
