Snow Chance for Piedmont Triad North Carolina This Sunday

USA

Even though snow lovers have been disappointed by this winter, Triad residents are thrilled by the prospect of snowfall. Snow is possible on Sunday, but it’s not guaranteed.

Sunday’s weather in Central North Carolina could include rain, sleet, and snow, but forecast models haven’t been reliable for the past 36 hours. On Saturday, the weekend will begin dry and bright, but as we switch between weather systems, chilly air will come in behind a cold front. The following system moves in early on Sunday, and while it will mostly be a chilly rain event, there is a risk that some snowflakes could mix in, especially if precipitation begins early (WFMYNEWS2

Following a dry Saturday, clouds will increase throughout the night and into early Sunday. Before sunrise, we may anticipate dry and chilly temperatures, but mid-morning will bring rain. When rain begins early enough and under the correct circumstances, it may combine with wet snowflakes to form “white rain.” The ground temperature was in the mid-to upper 40s as of Saturday evening, so any snow or sleet that does fall will quickly melt on Sunday morning.

Although accumulations of snow are not predicted for our region, there may occasionally be wet snow mixed in at certain spots to the north and west of the Triad. Since the air is colder there, snowfall is more likely. These counties have received winter weather advisories.

Temperatures will remain in the 30s Sunday, making it chilly and arid. Throughout the day, some warmer air will move in, forcing any wet flakes to change into rain.

By 5-7 PM, the Piedmont will see most of the rain taper down and dissipate.

Slick areas or black ice shouldn’t be an issue for Sunday night or Monday morning because temperatures are predicted to stay above freezing.
