Leaked Memo Sheds Light on DA’s Strategy

As the likelihood of former President Donald Trump’s arrest and indictment looms, an email leaked from Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s office reveals his thoughts on the matter. The district attorney reassured his staff in a memo, reported by Politico, stating, “Our law enforcement partners will ensure that any specific or credible threats against the office will be fully investigated and that the proper safeguards are in place so all 1,600 of us have a secure work environment.”

Bragg emphasized the importance of applying the law fairly and evenly, only speaking publicly when appropriate. Although he did not mention Trump by name, Bragg alluded to “public comments surrounding an ongoing investigation by this office.” This comes on the heels of Trump’s call for supporters to protest his potential arrest.

Trump’s Fury and Call to Protest

The former president has responded to the rumors of his arrest with outrage, posting an all-caps message on his Truth Social platform urging protests if he is arrested, which he believes will happen on Tuesday. Trump’s message condemned the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, accusing them of corruption and illegal leaks.

The Extradition Battle: A Twist in the Tale

An intriguing development could arise if Trump chooses to fight extradition from Florida to New York. In such a situation, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would be responsible for signing the papers allowing extradition. DeSantis, who has not yet announced his presidential candidacy, has been polling neck and neck with Trump.

Legal experts, however, argue that there is no viable way for Governor DeSantis to prevent extradition. Floridan attorney Tamara Holder and former Palm Beach prosecutor Dave Aronberg have both asserted that the governor’s power to stop extradition is virtually nonexistent. New York attorney Michael Bachner concurred, stating that it would be shocking if a judge did not order extradition once an indictment has been voted. Trump appears to be aware of this reality.

Law enforcement agencies are reportedly preparing for a possible indictment of Trump as early as next week. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has requested a meeting with these agencies to discuss logistics, fueling speculation of imminent action. In response to the news, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung issued a statement criticizing District Attorney Alvin Bragg, calling his investigation a “witch hunt” and alleging that Bragg was under the influence of President Biden and “radical Democrats.”

The impending fallout from these events will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences, with tensions escalating and the potential for protests and unrest in the coming weeks.
