Federal Judge Responds To Alvin Bragg’s Bid To Stop Rep. Jordan’s Subpoena

Daily Report NEWS USA

On Wednesday, Federal Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil shot down the attempt by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to block a subpoena against progressive attorney Mark Pomerantz in relation to the current prosecution against former President Donald Trump.

The subpoena on Pomerantz was the result of an effort by the House Judiciary Committee, led by Representative Jim Jordan, who argued that Pomerantz is “uniquely situated” to provide information on the allegedly political motivations behind the prosecution.

“It is not the role of the federal judiciary to dictate what legislation Congress may consider or how it should conduct its deliberations in that connection,” Vyskocil wrote in her opinion concerning the matter. “Mr. Pomerantz must appear for the congressional deposition. No one is above the law.”

Pomerantz was a former employee of Alvin Bragg’s office, who resigned in February 2022 in protest of Bragg’s decision not to prosecute the former president at the time. Pomerantz went on to author the book People vs. Donald Trump, in which he argues based on his experience in the Trump investigation that the forty-fifth president ought to be prosecuted.

Though Pomerantz lamented that Bragg was insufficiently zealous in his inquisition of President Trump last year, the two lawyers are once again aligned in priorities following Bragg’s decision to bring charges against the former president. Thus it came to pass that Bragg filed a lawsuit to

“Chairman Jordan’s subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing New York felony criminal prosecution and investigation,” Bragg said in a statement at the time. “As our complaint details, this is an unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and defies basic principles of federalism.’

DA Bragg has well-documented connections to the billionaire George Soros, who has spent over $40 million to support the election of left-leaning DAs and other officials. Bragg was the beneficiary of lavish spending by Color of Change, a Soros-funded nonprofit which attempts to support “progressive prosecutors” in local elections throughout the United States.

These ties have not gone unnoticed by critics, who allege that Bragg’s controversial donor may have something to do with his fervor for prosecuting President Trump. Among these critics is Trump himself, who posted on Truth Social lamenting the situation.

“Alvin Bragg received in EXCESS OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS from the Radical Left Enemy of ‘TRUMP,’ George Soros,” President Trump said.

Regardless of the efforts of Bragg and Soros, it appears likely now that Pomerantz will be required to testify on the matter.
