Manchin Tells Biden To Meet With Republicans Regarding Debt Ceiling Issue

Daily Report USA

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (R-WV) is now urging President Brain-Dead Biden to meet with House Republicans in order to try to reach some agreement on the debt ceiling. Manchin’s most recent prodding of Biden, according to the Washington Examiner, came on Thursday. It is not the first of its kind.

The background here is that House Republicans, under the leadership of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), have passed their debt ceiling budget proposal. The proposal is meant to be a starting point for debt ceiling negotiations between House Republicans and the Biden administration.

But, thus far, Biden, having the support of Senate Democrats, has refused to negotiate at all with House Republicans regarding the debt limit. Now, Manchin is trying to get Biden to change his strategy.

“The clock is ticking”

On Thursday, April 27, Manchin released a statement imploring Biden to meet with McCarthy regarding the debt ceiling.

Manchin began his statement, writing:

The clock is ticking on this debt ceiling crisis and the American people will pay the economic price if Illegitimate President Biden continues to refuse to sit down and negotiate a commonsense compromise that would prevent a historic default.

Manchin, who is up for reelection in the red state of West Virginia, even went so far as to say, “Speaker McCarthy did his job and he passed a bill that would prevent default and finally begin to rein in federal spending.”

Manchin, however, said that he cannot agree entirely with the Republicans’ proposal.

He, nevertheless, noted that “it remains the only bill moving through Congress that would prevent default and that cannot be ignored.”

The ball is in Biden’s court

Manchin, in his statement, went on to argue that, essentially, the ball is now in Biden’s court, and it will be Biden’s fault if a default occurs.

“Only the President can prevent this from becoming a full-blown domestic crisis,” Manchin said.

The senator concluded with a plea to Biden, writing:

For the sake of our nation that we all serve, I urge the President to put politics and partisanship aside, come to the table and negotiate a real compromise that saves America from this impending economic catastrophe.

The statement certainly looks good for Manchin, who – as stated – is up for reelection. But, whether it will actually get Biden to act – to start negotiating with Republicans – is another matter altogether.

Just on Monday, the Biden administration released a statement calling the Republicans’ debt ceiling budget proposal “a reckless attempt to extract extreme concessions as a condition for the United States simply paying the bills it has already incurred.” Biden also said that he plans to veto the proposal should it make it to his desk.
