Sinéad O’Connor Dead at 56

Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor has died at the age of 56. The Dublin performer released 10 studio albums and had a massive global hit singing Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” O’Conner’s version was named the number-one world single in 1990 by the Billboard Music Awards.

At this time, no cause of death has been released.

However, she had a history of mental issues.

O’Connor is survived by her three children.

Her son, Shane, died last year aged 17.

Shane took his own life in January 2022 after escaping the hospital while on suicide watch.

In 2018, Sinéad O’Connor changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat when she converted to Islam.

In her last Tweet, O’Connor posted a photo of Shane and said:

“Been living as undead night creature since.

“He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul.

“We were one soul in two halves.

“He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally.

“I am lost in the bardo without him.”

O’Connor made worldwide headlines when she ripped up a picture of the Pope during an appearance on Saturday Night Live.

She later revealed that she had suffered from abuse at the hands of the Catholic Church as a child.
