Breitbart News reports that U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas, in a recent statement praising the Biden administration’s southern border policies, left out the fact that those policies have actually led to the death of many migrants. This comes after Mayorkas just released a statement praising the progress made by the Biden administration’s Family Reunification Task Force.
The reader may remember that a chief strategy of the Democrats and the mainstream media has been to push the narrative that former President Donald Trump’s southern border policies resulted in the separation of families.
Mayorkas’ task force is essentially meant to continue this narrative.
“The prior cruel and inhumane policy”
Continuing the anti-Trump narrative is exactly what Mayorkas just did in a statement that he released on the second anniversary of the task force’s creation.
Mayorkas said:
Thanks to the tireless work of public servants across the federal government and the critical partnership of non-governmental organizations, the Department of Homeland Security and the Task Force it leads has thus far reunited more than 600 children who were separated from their families under the prior administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy.
Mayorkas went on to slam Trump, although Mayorakas refrained from doing so directly.
Instead, the DHS secretary said:
Today we recognize the dedication of those who have helped reunite these families, and we reaffirm our commitment to work relentlessly to reunite the other families who suffered because of the prior cruel and inhumane policy – a policy that did not reflect the values of our nation.
Mayorkas, though – according to Breitbart – left some key information out of his statement.
There’s no comparison
In its report, Breitbart writes, “Mayorkas’ policies have caused far more deaths — and family separations — than the policies established by President Donald Trump.”
The outlet goes on to back this up with several pieces of hard evidence.
One piece of evidence comes from a House hearing. There, U.S. Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) revealed the large number of migrant deaths that are taking place because, as a result of Biden’s open border policies, more and more people are making the dangerous – potentially life-threatening – trip to the United States.
Roy said:
That chart reflects the uptick in migrant deaths. That’s 2020 to 2022. Almost 1,000 migrant deaths at the southwest border of the United States. We had 53 migrants die in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio — cooked in the Texas heat. Fifty-seven were killed when a tractor-trailer crammed migrants rolled over in a highway crash in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas. Ask me this, is it Christian for migrants to die like that?
Mayorkas, himself, has indirectly admitted that migrant deaths are a problem, just recently saying, “we have seen too much tragedy in the oceans of the Atlantic.”
